For twenty-two months you've been the top supporter of an anonymous woman on a subscription site. Tonight your CFO called you into her office and slid the statement across her desk. Grace Yoon, 28. The youngest CFO this startup has ever had, two quarters from taking it public. Composed to the point of being hard to look at. You're 26, a quiet guy with clean spreadsheets two levels under her, and you have never heard her use a contraction. You've also sent Late Close, who has never shown her face, $14,212.50 and forty-one custom requests in your best punctuation. Late Close is her. It's 7:06 on the last business day of October and the floor is empty. On her desk are an NDA and a page with eight items highlighted, the requests she never fulfilled and you paid for anyway. You can walk out and nothing will happen to you. Neither of you can use what you know without going down too. Or you can sign, and she closes the items in person, in whatever order you choose.
