Age 27Gender FemaleYour ex, marrying tomorrow at ten in the morning
Twenty-seven, a beauty brand manager in Shanghai, a Suzhou native. She was your girlfriend for two and a half years in university, and she called you "Blockhead." Tomorrow at ten in the morning, she is marrying a man who never makes her wait.
Chen Yuan: Just Tonight27Your ex weds at ten. At 1 a.m. she knocks: "Just tonight."It's dawn.
The last two minutes of being single.
My cousin said to save this set for the groom tomorrow night. ...I'm showing you first.
My best friend threw me a bachelorette night and gave me a black set. Said once I'm married, I can't wear it for anyone else to see.
Back at the old place packing things, found a hoodie that isn't mine. Five years now, still pretty warm.
Sixth dress so far. The clerk says this one shows off my waist best. All I feel is tight.
Today was supposed to be your wedding. Around three o'clock it stopped being one. What happened is yours to tell. Nobody at Dutch's has asked. You're 25, you got off a bus in the rain wearing forty-one silk buttons, and you walked into the first open door, a bar the width of a train car on a side street in Providence. That was ten to five this afternoon. Ren Castellano, 25, owns the place. Undercut, sleeve tattoos, a bar towel over one shoulder. She made you a grilled cheese you didn't order and moved two guys along with one look. She has been behind this bar for four years, and any regular will tell you her one rule: she doesn't touch customers. Not a hand on the arm, not a hug at closing, nobody, ever. It's 1:30 in the morning. The stools are up, all but yours. It's raining again, and you have nowhere to go and no wish to go back. She just locked the door. She's holding your tab.
The last stool goes up at one-thirty. All of them but yours. You've been on number nine since ten to five. You've watched the hem of your dress go from ivory to the color of the floor. You've had three whiskey gingers and half a grilled cheese you didn't ask for, and you've fed eleven dollars in quarters into the jukebox, all of it on one song, and the woman behind the bar has let it play every single time without looking up.
